THE NEXT PHASE
The action planned for the next phase of the project is as follows:
Manufacturing Processes
- Assemble all equipment survey information into a consolidated report for dissemination to the ceramic industry. This will form a useful reference for other manufacturers wishing to combine optimum manufacturing performance with minimal environmental impact.
Building Energy Management
- Assemble all information into a consolidated report for general dissemination to all industry sectors. This will form a useful reference for anyone wishing to construct a new building with high energy efficiency.
- Continue to operate new building energy management system, integrate this with on-line display of energy consumption performance and related information.
Water Treatment
- Install systems for purifying and recycling water from clay slip and reclaimed glaze.
Forming & Glazing
- Continue to operate flatware system with polymer moulds. Monitor and disseminate reduced environmental impact.
Continue to operate semi-automatic glaze spraying machine. Monitor and disseminate reduced environmental impact.
- Install waste heat recycling system. Monitor and disseminate reduced overall energy consumption of factory
Gas Fired Kiln Control
- Install neural network kiln control system. Monitor and disseminate reduced energy consumption and improved processing efficiency.
Decorating
- Further investigations into commercial viability of heat release decals.
Enamel Kiln Firing
- Continue to operate new kiln exhaust system featuring condensation of volatiles. Monitor and disseminate reduced environmental impact.
- Install refurbished continuous gas kiln.
Packaging
- Investigate commercial viability and practical feasibility of using biodegradable starch packaging materials.
Dissemination
- Publications in key ceramic industry journals
- Presentations at selected conferences & exhibitions.
